South-North
Institute for Sustainable Development has just coordinated a study
tour concerning green electricity in the second half of September
in the Netherlands. The 8-member delegation investigated the efforts
made by Dutch government to establish and improve the green electricity
market and the great achievements in the field.
Since 1995,
green electricity, which is generated from wind power, solar power,
hydro-power, biomass etc., has been introduced into the power
market in Holland. Now the country has a relatively mature market
of renewable energy thanks to the support from the government,
utilities and consumers. Currently 20% of the total Dutch families,
which means 700,000 families, are green electricity users and
the demand for renewable energy has exceeded supply.
The delegation
has visited the energy authority, biomass power company, the supervision
organization of green electricity production and sale as well
as business and family green electricity users.
